Book Box Service

Whilst the library is an excellent resource for urban residents of Kamuli, for the rural areas we have developed another solution. Our Book Box Service is a response to the needs of those who cannot access the library. These sturdy wooden boxes are distributed to secondary schools in the outlying rural areas.  The aim is to develop the reading culture, with books selected which are relevant to the national curriculum alongside teaching materials. Particularly popular are the revision notes which help children revise for their national exams. UDS trains teachers to run this type of small library and encourages them to start up their own libraries too.

Calling all Book Clubs

Can you share your love of reading with children in Uganda?

Each time you meet could you contribute a pound each?  If we have 3 clubs doing this over the course of the year we would have enough to provide another school with a Book Box.  And you would be doing this while you are doing what you enjoy.

Click here to see the flyer about this - and download a form.  Any questions give Sue a call on 020 3286 3306

It costs about £350 to supply a school with a box or £5 for each book.

Do you belong to a Book Club.  Click here to download a from to raise funds from your group.  Share your love of reading with children in Uganda and provide them with text books to help them improve their studies.
